Samsung Joins the Open Generation 5G Consortium

Strengthening Our Collective Capability to Solve Complex Challenges Facing the Nation

Today the MITRE Engenuity Open Generation 5G Consortium welcomes Samsung Electronics America, Inc. to its roster of core members, joining telecom network giants Ericsson and Nokia, and technology leaders including Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Verizon.

A tech foundation for public good, MITRE Engenuity unites organizations through collaboration to create solutions in the public interest. The MITRE Engenuity Open Generation 5G Consortium is prioritizing use case innovation and discovering solutions based on the interactions between users and systems, to advance R&D in 5G and beyond.

“As a pioneer in 5G development and deployments, Samsung is committed to bringing 5G to the future, faster,” said Amresh Singh, Director of Partnerships, Networks Business, Samsung Electronics America. “We are excited to join the Open Generation 5G Consortium so we can help build, test and validate 5G use cases. 5G has the power to change the way people work, live and play and we are dedicated to working with organizations like MITRE Engenuity to make this vision a reality.”

To fully realize 5G’s potential, “we need to prepare for the opportunities and the threats,” says MITRE’s Senior Vice President, General Manager, MITRE Labs, and Chief Futurist Charles Clancy. Embracing this philosophy, MITRE’s experts in wireless technology, spectrum, cybersecurity, national security, aviation, and artificial intelligence are collaborating with government and industry to implement 5G securely, broadly, and equitably.

As Open Generation looks to 2023, it is expanding its portfolio of use case experiments beyond aviation. “Samsung’s end-to-end technology capabilities spanning network equipment, devices, and silicon are invaluable,” said Ajit Kahaduwe, General Manager of Open Generation and Managing Director of Incubation and New Product Development of MITRE Engenuity. “Adding Samsung to our membership boosts Open Generation’s ability to bring 5G across new verticals and deliver on our promise to accelerate innovation in the interest of public good.”
