Behind the Attack: Chase Killorin

The ATT&CK Evaluations (Evals) team are a group of dedicated cybersecurity professionals with multiple decades of combined experience. Get to know Chase Killorin, a 2024 summer intern on the team.

Chase Killorin

What is your role on the team?

As a Red Team Developer, I have contributed to expanding our noise generation capabilities to increase the rigor of our evaluations. I have also assisted with scenario testing for our upcoming evaluation round.

What accomplishment are you most proud of on the Evaluations team?

I would say I’m most proud of quickly ramping up on the project and being able to contribute to complex preexisting code bases and tooling.

How has your career led you to MITRE and your current role?

In college, I joined my school’s cybersecurity club RITSEC where I first participated in red vs blue cybersecurity competitions. Through the club, I met previous MITRE interns and employees who shared my interests in offensive security. The red teaming experience I gained from the club and the connections I made led me to the Red Team Development position I hold now at MITRE.

What skill – technical or soft – have you found useful in your current role?

Not being afraid to ask questions has been immensely useful. The team is always open to help and collaborate, and I’ve been able to learn a lot from their expertise.

What’s an interesting trend in Cybersecurity?

An interesting trend I’ve seen is more wins for software and technology becoming free and open source. There’s Ollama that’s open source and making AI accessible. More policies and legislation for the right to repair, and putting pressure on big tech companies. Even just the increasing popularity of the Linux desktop. It’s all really helpful to see.

Did you know? Chase enjoys rock climbing and playing volleyball. He plans on studying abroad in Dubai during his college experience.
